ABOUT NSFAS

National Student Financial Aid Scheme NSFAS is a public entity governed by the NSFAS Act that enables any student to apply for a loan or bursary. The primary objective is to turn NSFAS into an efficient provider of financial assistance to students from less fortunate families and promotes access to higher and further education and training.

 

NSFAS APPLICATION FOR 2023/2024

NSFAS bursary provides assistance to students wanting to further their education by covering the costs of studies for certain qualifications at any public university or college institution in South Africa.

This helps to reduce the burden of student debt for deserving students. Eligible Students must complete the NSFAS online application using the online application form portal in order to receive funds to assist with their tuition fee and cost of study

NSFAS 2023 APPLICATION STATUS 

Following the steps below, you can apply online using a cellphone, tablet, or computer

Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account
Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and answer the questions on the screen
Step 4: Upload the required supporting documents then click on ‘submit.

 

 

MY NSFAS STATUS 2023 APPLICATIONCHECK

To check the status of your NSFAS Application 2023, the applicant must

  • Go to myNSFAS website: https://my.nsfas.org.za
  • Enter your MyNSFAS account details
  • Log in with the ID number you created during your application process
  • Type your password in the space provided
  • Click “Track Funding Progress” to check NSFAS Status 2023

 

 

HOW TO TRACK NSFAS APPLICATION STATUS 2023/2024

If you wish to login into my NSFAS account to check the status of your 2023 application, you can likewise follow this process:

  • Visit the MyNSFAS student portal at https://my.nsfas.org.za
  • In-put your username and password
  • Then, you click on SIGN IN.
  • Once you are on my NSFAS status check 2023 page
  • Then, you click on My Personal Details.
  • Follow the prompt to “Check your Funding Progress” for the 2023 academic year

 

 

 TVET COLLEGES NSFAS 2023 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 2023

  1. South African citizens are eligible for this bursary scheme only
  2. Students must be registered or intend to register on a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programme at any of the fifty (50) public TVET Colleges in South Africa
  3. Must be in need of financial assistance (NSFAS will determine whether or not a student meets the financial eligibility criteria)
  4. All Returning students should demonstrate proven and accepted academic performance (academically deserving) in line with the College’s progression policy or the progression prescriptions of the Bursary Rules and Guidelines (whichever is higher)
  5. Candidates should not be enrolling for a qualification that duplicates previous learning that was state-funded
  6. Applicants will qualify if they fall within the maximum threshold of up to R350,000 of combined gross family income per annum and are admitted/received a firm offer for enrolment in a College.

 

 

HOW TO RE-APPLY AND REGISTER FOR NSFAS APPLICATION 2023/2024

Applicants must Apply and Register online on the myNSFAS portal for 2023 as a user or Re-register a myNSFAS account. To do so, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Applicants should visit NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
  2. On the NSFAS webpage, click on the “myNSFAS” tab at the top right corner of the page
  3. myNSFAS page will be open with a welcome message ” Welcome to the myNSFAS student portal”
  4. If you wish to Re-register your myNSFAS account, enter your username (i.e. your email address) and password
  5. And if you want to Register, please click on “Register”. Please ensure that you have a valid copy of your South African ID or unbridged birth certificate copy before you register your profile.
  6. Tick the box to allow NSFAS to verify and validate the information you have provided with third parties
  7. Then, enter your ID number on the field as it is stated on your ID document
  8. Type your full name and surname as per your ID number in the space provided
  9. Enter your current email address
  10. Verify your email address
  11. Ensure that you enter your cellphone number
  12. Create your preferred password
  13. Then you Confirm the password
  14. Upload a copy of your ID document
  15. After that, kindly click on register to receive a one-time pin
  16. A One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to the email address and the cellphone number you provided (this OTP will expire after 24 hours)
  17. Type in the OTP and click submit
  18. Finally, you have now completed your NSFAS Registration for 2023

 

 

NSFAS 2023/2024 DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR APPLICATION

Prepare certified copies of the following documents which must not be older than 3 monthsYour documents must need to be certified at the South African Police Service or the South African Post Office. If you are under the age of 18 or if you are 18 and older and are STILL DEPENDENT on the combined household income of your parent or legal guardian, then this also applies:

    • A valid copy of your South African ID or unabridged birth certificate. If you are younger than 16 years of age, and do not have a green barcoded ID or smart ID cardyou must submit a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate.
    • IDs of parents and/or guardian (death certificate if applicable)
    • IDs of each person living in your household
    • Proof of annual household income of your parents or guardian or yourself if employed as a payslip or appointment letter (This is for all types of employment or all forms of income for all members of thhousehold. This includes any income received from SASSA grants, Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), or any retirement, life, disability or other benefits paid as a lump sum or in monthly payments.)
    • certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results. (If you are currently in Grade 12, you do not need to submit this)
    • University registration documents (if applicable)
    • Travel and Accommodation documents (if applicable)
    • Proof of marital status (if applicable)
    • Download and complete the consent form and fill it in with the signatures of all people whose incomes have been declared in the application.
    • If you have a disability, download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form

 

 

MANUAL APPLICATION FORMS / OFFLINE NSFAS APPLICATION

  • Visit one of the application centers where you will be given a hard copy of the application form to fill in.
  • Use black ink to complete the nsfas application form and write within the blocks with CAPITAL letters.
  • Do not cancel out any text and make sure to write clearly.
  • Have parents/guardians sign the consent form.
  • Have certified copies of the listed supporting documents and attach them to the application form by stapling them before submission.
  • Documents must be certified on the front side of the page and should be within 3 months.
  • Sign the completed application form and submit it to one of the NYDA assistants.
  • The application will be attached with a barcode. Wait for the small acknowledgment of the receipt card with the duplicated barcode.

 

 

NSFAS 2023 REQUIREMENTS

  • Your own cellphone number and email address
  • Copy of your ID or birth certificate
  • ID copies of parents, guardians,s or spouse
  • If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required
  • Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form.
  • Combined household income of R350 000 or less per annum
  • If you are living with a disability, you need to have a combined household income of R600 000 or less per annum
