Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) is a South African tertiary education institution with its central administration in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth.

Nelson Mandela University (NMU) is a new-generation university, distinguished by the wide range of study options and access routes open to students. NMU nurtures innovation, fosters creativity, embraces technology and develops people to meet the challenges of tomorrow. HOW TO APPLY TO NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY (NMU)

Step 1: First, you have to make sure that you meet the programme’s admission requirements you wish to apply for.

 

Step 2: Obtain a copy of the undergraduate programme guide or Z-Card to assist you in making an informed choice.

As soon as you know what you want to study and that you meet the admission requirements, you can apply online.

 

Step 3: You must submit your application form together with ALL the relevant supporting documentation before the initial closing date.

Your application cannot be considered if you do not include all your supporting documents with your application form.

All prospective applicants will be notified by SMS and e-mail of the outcome of their application.

Category 1: New applicants who have not yet applied online for intake 2023  

The University is opening applications for qualifications that are currently full. Prospective students can therefore complete an online application and submit all their supporting documentation in order to be considered. Applicants will be able to apply for courses that are currently full, but their application will only be added to a reserve list and they must meet our direct entry requirements. These applications will only be considered if a space becomes available. Admission through this process is not guaranteed and applicants will be notified by the institution if they have been placed. Category 2: Incomplete application status: You applied but could not proceed with your application

The University is opening applications for qualifications that are currently full. As you were not able to complete your application initially as the course(s) were full, you may choose to apply again to be added to the reserve list, but only if you meet the direct entry requirements.

Your application will only be considered if a space opens in this qualification. Admission via this process is not guaranteed and applicants will be notified by the institution if they have been placed. We strongly advise you to also include a second study option before submitting your final application for admission. NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY (NMU) UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES IMPORTANT DATES

  • In order to ensure adequate time for processing, placement testing, and planning by Nelson Mandela University and yourself, applications for admissions should be submitted by 1 August of each year.
  • Applications will be received after this date until 6 January, but at a higher application fee.
  • Places in some programmes are limited. It is therefore in your best interest to submit your application as soon as possible.
  • A limited number of programmes also have a second-semester intake. The closing date for such applications is 30 May of each year. Late applications will be received after this date until mid-July, but at a higher application fee.
  • The closing date for applications by international students is 31 October of each year.

NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY (NMU) POSTGRADUATE STUDIES GENERAL RULES FOR ADMISSION

Nelson Mandela University (NMU)  Admission to honors programmes:

  • Applicants must hold a relevant bachelor’s degree or other qualifications approved by Senate.
  • In most cases, applicants must have obtained an average of at least 60% in the related third-year major subject.
  • Other and additional requirements relating to the level of competence achieved for the bachelor’s degree may be stipulated by the faculty.

 

 

NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY (NMU) ADMISSION TO POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES:

  • A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree and/or an honors degree or another suitable qualification approved by Senate.
  • Other and additional requirements relating to the level of competence achieved for the bachelor’s degree may be stipulated by the faculty.

 

NMU ADMISSION TO MASTER’S PROGRAMMES

  • A candidate must hold an honours degree or other qualifications approved by Senate.
  • A candidate may be required to fulfill further requirements as prescribed by Senate.

Nelson Mandela University (NMU) Reserve List Application

The University is opening Undergraduate applications again for qualifications that are currently full. If you wish to apply or have already applied and wish to change/add a full programme, please review the categories below and follow the instructions based on your application type.

Please note by applying for a full programme it does not mean that you will be admitted. Your application will be added to a reserve list if you meet the direct entry requirements for consideration by the faculty should places become available. There is no guarantee for admission to any full qualification(s) and we strongly advise you to select an alternative study option as well.

NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY (NMU) RESIDENCE DOWN PAYMENTS, DEPOSITS & REGISTRATION FEES

All outstanding academic and residential debt must be settled before the down payments can be paid.

The residence down-payment of R4800 is expected of every prospective resident student before residence registration.  Post-dated cheques in respect of down payments are not acceptable.

The residence down-payment is the first advance payment towards residence fees.

Residence registration is subject to the academic enrolment of a student.

 

 

NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY (NMU) RESIDENCE FEE

The residence fee is raised on the account when the student registers for occupancy of the room.

Rooms will only be reserved for students who have no outstanding debt and who have already paid the tuition and residence down payments by the required dates.  Applications for residence accommodation by far exceed the number of available rooms, therefore it is very important to make the required payments in good time.

Instead of a down payment, International students are expected to pay 50% of their annual residence fees prior to registration and the balance thereof is due before the start of the second semester.
