If you wish to apply for residence, please take note of the following:

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR ACCOMMODATION IN A WITS RESIDENCE

New Undergraduate students accommodation Wits University

  • NB: The closing date for all applications is¬†30 September¬†each year.¬†Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Before you are admitted to a residence, you will be required to pay R10000 of your residence fees for the year.
  • International students are required to pay 75% of their residence fees.
  • NSFAS students must have a provisional or firm acceptance before being admitted into a residence.
  • Bursary students must provide proof of their bursary upon registration.

Students who are presently at Wits, but not residing in residence

  • Applications are done online through self-service. For further inquiries please contact the Central Accommodation Office ‚Äď located on the Ground Floor, Room SH045, Solomon Mahlangu House.
  • The closing date for¬†undergraduates is 30 September.
  • Upon receiving an offer of a place in residence, you will have three (3) days in which to accept the offer. After the stipulated time, the offer will be withdrawn.

WITS UNIVERSITY STUDENTS CURRENTLY RESIDING IN A RESIDENCE

  • Readmission to University accommodation for a subsequent year is not automatic.
  • A student’s academic and disciplinary records are taken into account when readmission applications are considered.
  • Applications for readmission are done online and must be completed by 30 September.
  • Should you wish to apply for a residence different from the one you are currently occupying, please do so on self-service.

WITS UNIVERSITY DESCRIPTION OF RESIDENCES

Living within a residence environment can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a student’s career.

Faculty/student interaction in a residence, developing competence in all aspect of leadership, shaping a community from a cross-cultural perspective, late night discussions with peers/fellow students – these are just a few of the many opportunities that residence life provides, apart from sporting and social activities.

In catering residences, meals are provided as part of the residence package.
In self-catering accommodation, no meals are provided, but the residence provides catering facilities, including stoves, microwaves and fridges.

The residences are divided into six clusters and vary in size and layout. The clusters are:

 

NB: All applications are done online, not directly with the residences.

Residences are linked to all campuses by means of a bus service between 07:00 and 24:00. A special shopping bus links the residences to the Rosebank precinct on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

WITS UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE ACCOMMODATION

Wits University is able to offer truly affordable conference accommodation near the center of Johannesburg.

The Wits residences are available for group bookings during the University vacations in June/July, December and January.

Situated conveniently on the main University campus in Braamfontein and in Parktown, the accommodation itself is basic but comfortable and affordable. Meals can be arranged to suit all tastes and needs. Function rooms, conference venues and many other facilities, accommodating groups of up to 1000 people, are also available for hire.

WITS UNIVERSITY ACCOMMODATION FOR NEW STAFF AND VISITING ACADEMICS

The University offers a wide range of short-term accommodation for visiting academic/research staff, and for new senior members of permanent staff. Postdoctoral fellows (affiliated to departments in the University) are also accommodated for periods of up to two years and, where there are short gaps between other bookings, these spaces may be taken up by block-release postgraduate students.

New academic and administrative staff may be accommodated at their own expense for periods of up to three months while looking for permanent residential accommodation in Johannesburg. (Extensions may be requested if accommodation is available, but at rentals that will escalate at 15% each month with effect from the beginning of the 4th month.)

All visitor accommodation is fully furnished and equipped with the basic essentials. Rentals cover DSTV, IT connection points with unlimited Internet access, Wi-Fi connectivity in most units, bedding and towels (changed/laundered weekly), water and electricity, basic cleaning of suites/apartments three times per week, and free use of communal laundry facilities. In some units guests also have the use of incoming telephone service. Meals are available in student dining halls by prior arrangement.

All rentals for visitors are payable in advance via internal requisitions issued by the host academic department or research unit. Direct payments from individuals are accepted only from new staff and block-release students. (Non-South African guests should provide certified copies of passports & visas.)

ABOUT PRESTIGE ACADEMY RESIDENCE – BELLVILLE


The Academy’s Residence Life works to offer a positive living and learning environment in our residence. It is therefore definitely regarded as a very special experience. A residence is a community in which one meets a range of diverse students and forges life-long friendships. Student Residence Life at the Academy strives to ensure a living and learning environment for all students and to promote a residence culture. Every effort is made to ensure that students’ residence life experience will foster their holistic development as well as being fully supportive of their academic programme.

The student residence can accommodate about 50 students in 4 different residences. These residences are all on the same residence ground.

PRESTIGE ACADEMY RESIDENCE REGISTER FOR RESIDENCE ACCOMMODATION


The Student Residence is available for Prestige Academy students only.

The programme registration and residence accommodation applications must be handed in simultaneously.

PRESTIGE ACADEMY RESIDENCE  APPLICATION DATES


  • First year students ‚Äď 30 September 2020
  • Senior students ‚Äď 30 August 2020

The application closing dates are final and all applications must be accompanied with a R1 000.00 non-refundable application and registration fee or proof of payment thereof. Please use the student name and surname as reference when making payment. The residence deposit of R3 000.00 is payable once you receive confirmation of acceptance to the hostel, by no later than 30 October 2020.

Senior students who have not applied by the 30th of August 2020 will not be guaranteed place in the residence in 2020 and will be assisted according to availability.

It is important to note that allocation of rooms will be on a ‚Äúfirst come, first serve‚ÄĚ basis and your specific room is not automatically guaranteed. Applicants who make application before the final application date will be allocated a room in advance. It is therefore important not to wait until the final date to apply!

PRESTIGE ACADEMY RESIDENCE DEPOSIT AND DISCOUNT


3.5% Discount is offered if you pay the full residence fee by 30 November 2020 and 2% if you pay the full residence fee by 15 January 2020 for the 2021 academic year.

The residence deposit of R 3 000.00 is payable once you receive confirmation of acceptance to the hostel, by no later than 30 November 2020.

PRESTIGE ACADEMY SHUTTLE/TRANSPORT FEE


Your shuttle application forms part of your hostel registration form. An additional fee of R6500 per annum is charged for students who want to make use of the subsidized shuttle service to and from the academy. The fee is payable in full or over 10 months at R650 per month as from 1 February 2021 to 1 November 2021.

This fee is subject to supplier fees and could increase in the event of the supplier increasing their fees.

PRESTIGE ACADEMY FRIDGE FEE


Your fridge application forms part of your hostel registration form.

Only bar-type sized fridges (Height: 84cm x Width: 46cm x Depth: 50cm) will be allowed. Communal fridges are supplied. Should you bring your own fridge, an additional fee of¬†R600 per annum¬†will be levied towards the use of electricity. The fee is payable in full or over 11 months at¬†R60.00 per month as from 1 February 2021 ‚Äď 1 December 2021.

PRESTIGE ACADEMY RESIDENCE PARKING


Your parking application forms part of your hostel registration form. By completing your hostel registration form, parking is not automatically guaranteed. Parking is limited and you will be informed in writing whether you have been allocated a parking bay or not.  Should parking not be available, you will go onto a waiting list until such parking do become available.

A shuttle service will be available for students without parking.¬† Please refer to the section under ‚ÄúShuttle‚ÄĚ for more information.

It is important to note that should you have indicated ‚Äúparking‚ÄĚ on your application form and arrive at the hostel without a vehicle, it will automatically result into¬†forfeiting your parking¬†for the academic year.

No vehicle = No parking. 

Allocation of parking bays will be confirmed by 15 November 2020. Should you be granted a parking, you will only be required to pay for the remote to gain access to the premises. The fee for the remote is R220 (once off) and will be refunded at the end of the academic year.

PRESTIGE ACADEMY RESIDENCE CANCELLATION OF RESIDENCE PLACEMENT


It is important to take note of the cancellation of hostel placement. Should you cancel the residence application after 30 November 2020, you will forfeit the non-refundable application registration fee of R1 000.00 as well as the deposit of R3 000.00. Cancellations received after 15 January 2021 will be held liable for the full year’s residence fee. Cancellations will only be accepted if done in writing.
